How can I ship alcohol to the USA?
I am on a world trip. My first stop was in Dublin, Ireland, where I visited the Old Jameson Distillery. There I bought a special bottle of whiskey for my dad, ONLY made and sold there at the distillery. I also paid a bit extra to have my dad’s name printed on the bottle and box. Very fancy.
I tried to mail a box of souvenirs to my parents in America while I was still in the UK but they turned me away with the whiskey still in hand, telling me there is no way to ship alcohol, that customs will not allow it.
It’s a special gift! I don’t want to abandon it, but I also don’t want to carry it around with me for the year or so that I plan to be gone.
Please, does anyone have suggestions?
You cannot mail alcohol in the mail. This is the norm for many countries. It is flammable and it may not necessarily be legal for the receiver (I know it’s your dad, but customs officials don’t know that.)
Shipping it in your luggage probably won’t work either. If it is seen, it may be confiscated per your destination’s laws. Of course, if you are 21 and over, you won’t have a problem. But if you are underage, unfortunately, the bottle most likely will have to stay behind. Or just drink it.
